Why Ace?

Why do we need an Ace Department, anyway?

The way I see it, we need to protect “this thing of ours”.  Women don’t get near enough opportunity to create and operate ventures of their own (or credit for the ones they do).  In my own experience, the expectation seems to be that you can (and should) excel using one of two avenues — either you’ll climb the corporate ladder in your chosen field and get as high as you can through a combination of scrapping and playing politics, or you’ll continue on through school and knock everybody’s socks off in a professional field like law or medicine.

But the dialogue around and encouragement toward pursuit of an entrepreneurial life is usually missing — which I think fails more young girls with potential than we like to imagine.

A whole new complement of skills and preferences and talents come with our gender, and are often afterthoughts of the mainstream business world.  Women have tons to offer when it comes to business, small and large.  But we’ll come back to that another time.  What most frustrated me about the pre-Ace Department world was that the only venues I could find to connect with other women doing similar things in business were aimed at selling me something.  Many somethings, in fact.  All things I don’t need.

That’s why Ace Department is set up as a community-driven experience.  Rachel and I aren’t interested in selling our services as business coaches, life gurus, or branding experts, nor do we want to invite you to sell your friends into our latest multi-level marketing scheme.  And we’re also not inviting sponsors to sell you their things-you-don’t-need.

This is a safe space for you to collaborate, co-celebrate, commiserate, and find exciting new ways to make your life richer, happier, and more full of the things you value.

As you make a space for yourself here,

please let us know what you think.

What did we get right, what’s missing, and what would you like to see more of?

Why Ace?
As anyone who’s ever dreaded walking through the door to work knows, being a member of a community full of smart, fun people is important.  Think of Ace Department as your immune system, keeping the bad germs at bay, kicking out any that make their way into your day, and rehabilitating the body for a better tomorrow.

  1. I am very excited about Ace (obviously, I guess). I have been looking for an online community where I feel comfortable to discuss my business and meet other women who are struggling and succeeding with some of the same things I am. This should be fun!
